04Sectional times
Reading sectional times (S-1F, G-3F, G-1F)
Sectional times show where in a race a horse was fast. 1F (furlong) is about 200 m.
- S-1F: first 200 m after the start — early speed.
- G-3F: last 600 m — stamina in the decisive phase.
- G-1F: final 200 m — finishing power.
Our method: for races of a mile (1,600 m) or more, where four sections are shown, we drop the middle section and add S-1F + G-3F + G-1F. This lets us compare early and late speed on the same basis across distances.
