How odds work in Korea

Understand Racing5 min

Korea uses the pari-mutuel system: money on each bet type is pooled, a fixed share is deducted, and the rest is shared among winners. Odds change as people bet, are shown on the odds board every 30 seconds, and are fixed when betting closes.

Odds of 4.0 mean a correct 1,000-won pick returns 4,000 won including the stake. Low odds mark favourites; 10 or more marks an outsider.

Reading the odds board

  • Win/Place: the number next to each horse.
  • Quinella/Quinella Place: the cell where the lower and higher numbers meet.
  • Exacta: the row of the 1st-place number and the column of the 2nd.
  • Trio: the row showing the two lower numbers and the column of the highest.

Favourites lose often. Sudden late moves are worth investigating.
